Will converting PNG to JPG lose quality?

Technically yes — JPG is a lossy format — but at 85–95% quality the difference is invisible for photos. Text and sharp graphics show compression artifacts sooner, so use a higher quality setting for those or keep them as PNG.

Why did my transparent PNG get a white background?

JPG has no transparency channel, so transparent pixels have to become a solid colour. White is the default; you can pick any colour before converting — for example your website’s background colour.

What quality setting should I use?

For photos, 85–90% is the usual sweet spot between size and quality. Use 95% or higher for images with text or fine detail, and 70–80% when file size matters most, such as email attachments.

Can I convert many PNGs at once?

Why convert PNG to JPG?

PNG is lossless, which makes it perfect for screenshots, logos and anything with transparency — and far too heavy for photos. A photo saved as PNG is commonly several times the size of a good-quality JPG that looks the same, which is why upload forms, email clients and marketplaces so often ask for JPG instead.

This converter re-encodes your PNGs as JPG at the quality you choose. Because JPG has no transparency, you also choose what colour the transparent areas become — white by default, so logos and cut-outs don’t turn into black boxes.

What changes when you convert PNG to JPG

Transparency is replaced: JPG cannot store transparency. Transparent and semi-transparent pixels are blended onto the background colour you pick. If you need to keep transparency, convert to WebP or keep the PNG.
The file usually gets much smaller: For photographs, a JPG at 85–90% quality is typically a fraction of the PNG’s size with no visible difference. For flat graphics with few colours, the saving is smaller.
Sharp edges can blur slightly: JPG compression is designed for photos. Text, thin lines and hard-edged icons can pick up faint “ringing” artifacts — raise the quality, or keep those images as PNG.
It’s a one-way trip: JPG discards detail to save space. Converting back to PNG later won’t restore it, so keep your original PNG if you might edit it again.
